As a part of our TAG standards and MBES's vision to MOVE, students have been working hard to create their own websites using weebly as a host. Click on the links below to view our students' hard work!
Fourth Grade: BizMovie
Thank you so much to everyone that came to our movie viewing for our BizMovie unit culmination. Students created resumes, applied for positions in the movie production company, created a company name and company norms, then wrote a movie that appealed to their specific target audience. If you were here, you understood that students' target audiences were kids.... and that was demonstrated through their themes. As adults, we needed to shift our perspective to follow their movies through the eyes of a ninja-loving 4th grader. They used GoAnimate to create their feature films and created advertising for their movies. Thank you to Joseph M. for compiling all student videos onto one link: http://goanimateblog.weebly.com/tag-videos.html
First Grade: Zoology
Students investigated zoos, their early beginnings, why we have zoos, and how to run a zoo. Students researched specific self-chosen zoo animals and completed a thorough design and plan based on the animal's needs. Finally the students created a habitat using items for Mrs. Coxen's "trash to treasure" materials and items brought from home. I've loved seeing how each student chose to transform a copy paper box into a unique zoo exhibit. Students also continued their growth in how to use Microsoft Publisher. Students created a zoo exhibit "animal sign" using Microsoft Publisher. Finally, students presented their animal and exhibit on camera. I am so proud of all of their hard work!

Fifth Grade Unit 2: Pioneers of the 20th Century
Students analyzed some of the medical advancements as a result of World War II. To transform their research, students debated on who deserves credit for the discovery of penicillin. Students made a "facebook" page to share their findings about the pioneer. Students were to infer and imagine some of the information based on their research and the culture and time period. Their work, as always, was awesome!
Fifth Grade Unit 2: Pioneers of the 20th Century - Jacques Cousteau
Students were challenged with the following learning experience:
What is a scientist after all? It is a curious man looking through a keyhole, the keyhole of nature, trying to know what’s going on. – Jacques Cousteau
Essential Questions: What contributions have various people made to society, science, culture, and technology in order to promote creative solutions to problems and issues?
In what ways do continuity and change in economics, society, politics, and nature promote creative solutions to problems and issues?
What interrelationships exist among people, ideas, and events (past and present) that promote creative solutions to problems and issues?
What scientific advancements came in the area of underwater exploration?
Project: Students will create a product displaying what they have learned about Jacques Cousteau. Products must include the following information:

- Put it into words…Choose one of the following famous quotes from Jacques Cousteau. Explain what it means and why you chose it. How does it relate to you or someone/something you know? What does it tell us about Cousteau, the 20th century, or ocean exploration? Why would it be important for people to be familiar with this saying?
- Identify Cousteau’s contributions to 20th century scientific advancements
- List questions you would ask Cousteau if given the opportunity
- Include biographical information about Cousteau
- An illustration of Cousteau or an artifact to represent his contributions
Below are their creations! Enjoy!

Third Grade Energy Pioneer Puppet Show Movies
Pioneer Puppet Show
Introduction: Where we are today is a result of many people’s struggles, discoveries, ambition, and passion. Before we can shape the energy of the future, let’s look at the pioneers that got us where we are today! Use the pioneers listed in the Portaportal document or Pioneers listed on any of the approved websites.
Create: a puppet from a popsicle stick and construction paper
Write: a script that includes the following information with humor and personality. Use written expression and writing skills to impress the audience.
CPS: Share the failures leading up to the discovery if possible. Did your pioneer demonstrate the benefits of trial and error, learning from mistakes, and the process of creative problem solving??
Students were to create a 1 minute act to share the following information: biographical information, inventions or discoveries, benefits and concerns of the invention/discovery, uses today, and how he/she demonstrated creative problem solving.

First Grade Animal Planet Research Segments, "Arctic Tales"
- My first grade TAG scientists and researchers used the internet and encyclopedias to gather information about the arctic animals of their choice. Students organized their own scripts for their segment on "Animal Planet" - a segment recorded in MBES' new television production studio. Ms. Serafin collaborated with Mrs. Martin to record the students and choose a setting fit for the students. Students created a visual to accompany their presentations as well. Students chose their own materials to create two and three-dimensional posters. One lesson we learned using the production studio and green screen: no green construction paper or clothes next time! Enjoy the Arctic Tales from Ms. Serafin's first grade students!
