We were so busy mummifying hot dogs, that we forgot to eat snack. So this Italian post-lunch snack was perfect!
Students had a spectacular time testing their solar ovens when the sun finally decided to show it's warm face on a Tuesday for our third grade engineers. Students were able to choose between the traditional design or creating a design of their own. Students were encouraged to bring in materials from home to add to their solar ovens as well. Students tested their solar ovens using a campfire favorite snack, S'Mores! Thank you to all of the parents in third grade who are continually supporting our investigators, engineers, creators, and scientists! In case you didn't hear, one group actually set the marshmallow ON FIRE!! I would certainly call that a success! Students honed the power of the sun's energy and magnified it using a magnifying glass at just the right angle. Mrs. Martin shared this great website, Edutecher, and I am interested in incorporating new technology tools into our daily use. Take a look around and tell me what you think!
If the students want to use Weebly to create a website, I can easily create them an account. Please see me! The student login page is: http://students.weebly.com/ If students are using Prezi, www.prezi.com, the login is [email protected] and password is mustang. For my writers, some TAG teachers shared this website, Poetic Power, for aspiring writers. Taylor Swift won and was published when she was in 5th grade on this website. Maybe you will win too??
Thank you so much to everyone that came to our movie viewing for our BizMovie unit culmination. Students created resumes, applied for positions in the movie production company, created a company name and company norms, then wrote a movie that appealed to their specific target audience. If you were here, you understood that students' target audiences were kids.... and that was demonstrated through their themes. As adults, we needed to shift our perspective to follow their movies through the eyes of a ninja-loving 4th grader. They used GoAnimate to create their feature films and created advertising for their movies. Thank you to Joseph M. for compiling all student videos onto one link: http://goanimateblog.weebly.com/tag-videos.html
Enjoy! Be sure to visit http://mbestag.weebly.com/student-work-samples-and-links.html to see our first grade zoology exhibit videos! The students worked diligently and creatively to create these dynamic products!
Students used materials from Trash to Treasure as well as materials brought from home to create solar ovens. Students were able to use a traditional oven plan or incorporate a design and materials of their own to create a solar oven of their own. Students then compared and contrasted their designs.
